Lake Lanier Fishing Report – March 28, 2025

  • Water Level: Lanier currently sits at 0.33ft ABOVE full pool.  With the projected rains late this weekend and into early next week, I would expect the lake to creep up a bit in the coming week or so.
  • Water Temperature: Water temps are finally hitting 60/61 on both Lowrance and Garmin units in the afternoon right now.  There has been a pretty good cooling off each night with lows in the 40s, but those cool offs should slow down with the higher expected low temperatures over the next week. This change will help stabilize the dipping of the surface temp over night and increase the “core” or average surface temp over a 24hr period.
  • Water clarity: Pollen aside, the water is clear on the main lake with increasing color as you head back in the major creeks and up the main rivers.  I did not find any real muddy water this week, but that will likely change early next week if we get some strong thunderstorms.  That being said, there is a ton of pollen on the water in some areas, especially those areas that are protected from wind, which greatly reduces visibility into the water.

We are entering what is historically some of, if not the best fishing month of the year for both numbers and size of fish on Lanier.  The lake is about to experience a massive wave of spawning bass, a herring spawn and a shad spawn.  It is quite possible that we will see all three overlap at some point in the next month.

The good thing about this time of year is anglers can fish their strengths and be confident that it will pay off one the course of the day.  There are power and finesse patterns that can be very successful, with or without the use of FFS.

Over the past week, fishing has been good to great and will only continue to improve over the next few weeks. For this weeks report, I am going to cover the rods that have been on my deck as well as the one or two that will get added over the next week or so.

SPINNING RODS:

I have kept 4 spinning rods ready to go:

  • 3/16oz shaky head with a GPG or SBC colored Trixster Tamale
  • 1/8oz DS rod with a Morning dawn based 6in Roboworm
  • 1/16oz NEKO rigged 5in Yamamoto Sinko
  • 3/16 Guppy head with a 2.8 Kietech or a 1/4oz spot choker with a 3in CAST prodigy

I am rotating through the worms depending on how I am feeling at any given point in time and working in the swimbait early and late or any time I am seeing schooling activity.

BAITCASTERS:

–  4.5in Diamond Baits A-rig with 1/8oz heads and 3in CAST Prodigies

  • Vision 110+1JR
  • 1/2 oz Mini-Me
  • Small profile crank bait

These are my go to rods in the event of wind or schooling fish.  In either situation, if these baits fail to work, I will move to the small swimbaits on spinning rods.

Within the next week, I will be adding a CAST OG, fluke, and 4in sand colored Zoom Deadringer to the mix. With some minor changes, these will be the rods that will stay rigged for the foreseeable future.  Or that is the plan…..

The daily videos I publish offer up to date current information on what I’m doing on the water.  Essentially, subscribers have access to all of the information that I used to give to my closest buddies when they would call.  If I feel the information is key to catching fish, I cover it. All subscribers have access to all historical videos (370+ previous videos). You can sign up and view videos at https://jeffnail.uscreen.io   There is also a folder of “free” videos that are accessible to anyone at any time free of charge.

For the remainder of April, I have the 3, 5, 9, 13-20, 23-30. If you are interested in a trip, please reach out and I will get you on the calendar.
