Georgia Hunters Close 2024–2025 Deer Season with Impressive Harvest Numbers

The 2024–2025 deer hunting season in Georgia wrapped up with a total harvest of 273,079 deer, a slight decrease from the previous year’s record-setting 288,871. The harvest included 130,553 bucks and 142,526 does, continuing Georgia’s reputation as one of the top deer hunting destinations in the Southeast.

Looking at the past five years, the 2024–2025 season aligns with a trend of high but slightly fluctuating harvest numbers. The total harvest peaked in 2023–2024 at 288,871 but remained strong this season despite the slight decline.

Buck harvests have shown steady consistency, while doe harvests saw a more noticeable dip this year, dropping from 153,942 in 2023–2024 to 142,526. The five-year trend highlights Georgia’s robust deer population and the effectiveness of the state’s management practices.

While the total harvest dipped slightly, hunters across the state enjoyed successful outings, with several counties standing out for their exceptional harvest numbers. Floyd County led the pack with an impressive 4,300 deer harvested, narrowly edging out Hancock County’s 4,295. Other top-performing counties included Hall (3,971), Washington (3,917), and Wilkes (3,910), rounding out the top five.

Anecdotally, it seemed like there were a lot of big bucks taken this season, as judged by the number of photos we received of exceptional deer for our Georgia Afield photo album.
