Why Prescribed Fire?
Prescribed fire is a critical tool for managing Georgia’s diverse ecosystems. It helps restore and maintain habitats for a variety of wildlife species, including bobwhite quail, wild turkey, deer, and endangered gopher tortoises. By reducing invasive plant species and promoting the growth of native grasses and wildflowers, prescribed fire creates food and cover for wildlife.
Prescribed burns also reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires by decreasing fuel loads, such as dry leaves and fallen branches. Additionally, they improve forest health by recycling nutrients into the soil, encouraging the growth of healthy trees and plants.
Whether you are managing land for hunting, wildlife viewing, or timber production, prescribed fire can enhance the value of your property and improve the health of your land.
